Dbrand has launched its latest innovation in the form of Darkplates 2.0, custom face plates specifically designed for the PS5 Slim. This new release updates the original concept with a refined design tailored for the slimmer model of the popular gaming console.
Unlike the previous iteration, which utilized a setup of four distinct plates, Darkplates 2.0 simplifies the design to just two plates—one on each side. These plates are finished in an elegant black and are equipped with circular vents that enhance airflow, ultimately contributing to a cooler running console.
Darkplates 2.0 can now be purchased directly from Dbrand's online store. They cater to both the standard PS5 Slim and the Digital Edition, each priced at $69.95, though they currently enjoy a $10 discount. Customers also have the option to enhance their purchase with a magnetic stand for an additional $10, a middle skin ranging from $24.95 to $49.90, and decorative light strips priced from $11.95 to $19.95 depending on the intricacy of the design. In total, customers could spend between $69.95 and $100.85 (outside of any discounts) depending on their selections.
The first wave of stock is being shipped now, with additional waves expected to be released in November, December, and January. This provides ample opportunity for those interested to acquire what could significantly elevate the look of the PS5 Slim beyond its original faceplates.
As anticipated from Dbrand, their website makes sharp remarks regarding Sony's design choices. The product description humorously questions the practicality of airflow through a three-millimeter thick piece of solid plastic. Those who answered in the negative are whimsically invited to consider becoming the company's next "Fan Scientist."
In case you're not aware, Dbrand previously faced a cease-and-desist order from Sony a few years ago, which mandated the immediate halt of production for the original Darkplates. However, with the introduction of Darkplates 2.0, Dbrand asserts that they are on solid legal ground, suggesting this new accessory may be a permanent fixture in the marketplace.
