Microsoft Court Documents Suggest Imminent Arrival of Nintendo Switch 2

The gaming world is abuzz with fresh rumors about the next iteration of Nintendo's popular console, the Nintendo Switch 2. The latest speculation about a successor to the Nintendo Switch has surfaced from an unlikely source, court documents related to a case between Microsoft and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). A paragraph in the court records has stirred up the gaming community, hinting at the potential launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 as early as next year.

The documents reveal Microsoft's standpoint on why it doesn't monitor Nintendo's sales performance as closely as it does PlayStation's. The company claims that Nintendo is on a different timeline, given that the original Switch was released three years prior to the latest PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The court documents state, “Switch was released three years earlier, and Nintendo is expected to release the successor to the Switch as early as next year, whereas PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S are at a different stage of the console life cycle.”

This latest hint aligns with recent chatter from gaming companies, such as Ubisoft, discussing the arrival of a new Nintendo console. Nevertheless, Nintendo's top brass has been noticeably quiet about their future plans. Nintendo President Doug Bowser has maintained that the current Nintendo Switch still has “a few years” left, suggesting that a new console might not be immediately on the horizon.

In a statement back in March, Bowser said, “As Mr. Furukawa (Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa) said recently, we’re entering uncharted territory with the platform. It’s exciting to see that demand is still there. So nothing to announce on any future console or device, but we are still feeling very bullish about Nintendo Switch.” This statement indicates that while Nintendo acknowledges the ongoing interest and demand for their console, they are not ready to release information about a successor device just yet.

In conclusion, while the court documents indicate a possible early release for the Nintendo Switch 2, the official stance from Nintendo remains vague. As the gaming community continues to speculate, Nintendo is keeping its cards close to its chest. Whether the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming next year or not, it's clear that the anticipation is building, and the gaming giant will surely look to capitalize on the momentum when the time is right.
