Prepare for a blast from the past with the highly anticipated 4K remaster of the cult first-person shooter, Rise of the Triad, scheduled to release this year. The collaboration between Apogee Entertainment, Nightdive Studios, and New Blood Interactive promises a much-needed update to the classic 90s game where players battle cultists.
One of the most notable updates to the Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is the addition of new HUD options, giving players a choice between a minimalist design or the classic wide status-bar style. The original HUD displayed a pixelated version of the player's chosen character, but the remastered version will now showcase an animated version that reacts to power-ups and damage. Characters will gain glowing eyes for God Mode, transform into a dog for Dog Mode, and display a Doom-style ouch face when hit.
Another exciting aspect of the remasters is the inclusion of alternate enemies, allowing players to revisit previously cut content. In addition to restoring rejected maps, unused items, and textures, the remaster will also feature NPCs initially left out during the original development. Restored characters, such as female versions of the guards, will replace regular enemies, with the replacement rate being determined by an "alternate actor chance" in the menu.
In conclusion, the Ludicrous Edition doesn't stop there, as fans can also expect a new episode called The Hunt Continues, an improved level editor with Steam Workshop support, map previews, and functional multiplayer. Players will have a chance to test the remastered game during the Steam Next Fest from June 19 to June 26, with a demo featuring levels from The Hunt Begins, Dark War, Extreme ROTT, and The Hunt Continues. So mark your calendars and get ready for a nostalgic yet modernized trip down memory lane with the Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition.
