Enthusiasts of A Song of Ice and Fire are no strangers to the challenges that accompany following this beloved fantasy series. George R.R. Martin, the series' author, began his work on the anticipated book The Winds of Winter back in 2010. Now, fifteen years later, the release date still remains a mystery. Given this context, it's hard not to find some amusement in Martin's recent announcement regarding the subsequent book he plans to tackle after completing The Winds of Winter.
In his latest Not a Blog update, where he also addresses expectations for Max's upcoming reinterpretation of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Martin reassures readers that he intends to return to the adventures of the Hedge Knight Dunk and his noble companion Egg.
He has indicated that once he wraps up The Winds of Winter, he will delve into "The Village Hero" along with additional stories waiting for the characters. There’s an unspoken understanding among fans that they will help keep him on track with these endeavors.
If the pacing of The Winds of Winter serves as any indication, it may be prudent to estimate that the next installment featuring Dunk and Egg might not emerge until the 2030s at the earliest.
