On November 3, in a phone call about profits, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav announced that the merger of HBO Max and Discovery Plus is going well and will even take place not in the summer of 2023, but in the spring.
What is Known
The two services differ greatly in both the user interface and the server part. HDO Max, of course, wins over Discovery Plus with the number of subscriptions, since before the deal it had 76.8 million users, and after that, it became 94.9 million. Zaslav's plan is to combine two services that are targeted at different audiences.
Zaslav hopes that this combination of the two services will contribute not only to an increase in the number of subscriptions, but also to a significant increase in advertising revenue. As for the content that comes to the new service, over time it is planned only to increase the budget for the production of a new one.
This is a significant gain and challenge for competitors. It will be interesting to see how Netflix and Amazon Prime will respond to this merger.
