The Rise and Fall: TSM's Brief Overwatch 2 Comeback Ends in Departure

The dynamics of the esports scene are shifting once more as organizations are navigating the ever-changing landscape of competitive gaming. Amid rising financial incentives and opportunities surrounding major events, teams are emerging and disappearing in a cyclical pattern.

Recently, it has become evident that some teams, after initially re-entering the fray, are once again choosing to withdraw, marking a return to a familiar narrative. In a striking parallel to Fnatic’s recent move to dissolve its Overwatch 2 team just months after its formation, TSM is now following suit. Both organizations had anticipated the upcoming Esports World Cup by forming new teams, but with the event now completed, TSM has opted to part ways with its Overwatch 2 roster.

The organization expressed gratitude towards the players and the coaching staff for their commitment throughout the turbulent journey this year, acknowledging the challenges faced along the way. Initially, TSM stepped back from competitive Overwatch in May 2017, only to regain a roster in May 2024. This recent chapter for the team lasted a mere five months before they decided to end their involvement once again, highlighting the unpredictable nature of esports team management and the constant reevaluation of competitive commitments.
