7 Ways to Get Free Fortnite Skins Right Now: What Epic Is Giving Away This Fall

Fortnite has always had a funny relationship with the word "free." The game costs nothing, and then the Item Shop resets every evening with a new outfit that costs about as much as a pizza. For years, players have looked for a way around that, mostly on sketchy websites. But Epic does hand out real skins for nothing, and in September 2026 there are at least seven legit ways to get one, from a two-minute account link to a Sprite grind that ends around November 1.
Nothing here needs a "V-Bucks generator." We'll get to those at the end, because they deserve their own warning.

1. Link a LEGO Account and Collect Two Skins Before Your Coffee Cools

This is the easiest free skin in the game, and a surprising number of people still haven't done it. Connect a LEGO account to your Epic account and you get two outfits: Explorer Emilie and Mr. Dappermint. Each one comes with a Fortnite style and a LEGO style, so that's four cosmetics for filling in one form.
Here's how Epic describes the process:

  1. Sign in to your Epic account at epicgames.com.
  2. Open Apps and Accounts in your account settings.
  3. Click Connect next to LEGO Account.
  4. Log in to (or create) a LEGO Insiders account and follow the prompts.

The next time you launch Fortnite, an "Items Acquired" message should pop up with the rewards. There's no announced end date. Epic even points out that linking is "NOT required to play LEGO Fortnite," which is the company's way of saying this is purely a gift, not a toll booth.

2. The LEGO bonus round: Trailblazer Tai

If you're already in LEGO Fortnite, there's a third freebie. The True Explorers Quest Pack gives you four quests, and finishing them gets you the Trailblazer Tai outfit plus XP and a back bling.

The pack first appeared as a free claim in the Shop around LEGO Fortnite's launch. Dexerto and Skycoach both still list it as available with no end date in September 2026, but

Epic hasn't made much noise about it lately, so check the Shop before you plan an evening around it.

3. Pixel Polli, or how to spend six weeks babysitting Sprites

This one's new, and it's the grindiest item on the list. To get Pixel Polli, you have to master 28 Sprites. Mastering means leveling a Sprite to level 5 with Sprite XP and then extracting it, which locks the progress in for good. According to the games.gg guide, the deadline is the end of the season, around November 1, 2026.

The practical tips are simple. Equip the Sprite you're working on before every match, open chests, and extract duplicates, because they count toward a Sprite you already own. The same guide suggests two or three mastered Sprites a day keeps you on schedule, which sounds perfectly reasonable right up until you meet a Sprite that levels up only from wins and realize your evening now depends on winning a match against people who apparently don't sleep.

That's exactly what players complained about. Over on X, @OfficialAngyPip asked Epic to "make it easier to find and master the sprites and dont make one that only level up from wins and healing." Another player, @DavidTheRune, raised a question nobody at Epic seems ready to answer: “why does pixel polli have nothing to do with pixels?”

Fair point, to be honest. There's no pixel art on her anywhere. She's still free, though. Free skins don't have to make sense.

4. Ranked Cups: a free skin, if you can handle the lobby

Competitive players get their own reward this season. Chapter 7 Season 4 Ranked Cups hand out the Null outfit, along with Null's Scythe (pickaxe), Skeletal Slingbag (back bling) and the Crowned Override Brella (glider). Each session runs about three hours, with 11 or 12 matches.

The entry bar is lower than for cash tournaments. Hotspawn lists the basics: two-factor authentication turned on, a minimum account level, age 13 or older, and on PC, TPM and Secure Boot enabled. Solo Battle Royale cups were scheduled for September 30 and more dates in October, so there's still time.

The catch is that points come from how you play, and the official rules say winners hear back "within sixty (60) days" of the session. So this is less "free skin today" and more "free skin by the time you've forgotten about it." The design also split the community. The leak account Fortnite Leaks summed up the mood with a post that simply asked: “Why are people hating on Fortnite Null skin?”

I'll admit I'm not the target audience here. My ranked experience mostly consists of landing at a hot drop and watching someone build a four-story apartment around me in half a second. If that's you too, start with the LEGO skins and don't take it personally.

5. Mobile quests and a guy called Yeddy

Yeddy arrived in March 2026 to celebrate Fortnite's return to the Google Play Store. He's an Android-mascot-looking character with a battery pack on his chest that reacts in-game, and he's free for mobile players who finish a short quest chain. Beebom lists the tasks: use the Invite a Friend button to get a friend playing, then earn account level.
Dexerto gives the end date as December 20, 2026. FRVR adds a useful warning: mobile campaigns rotate, and "Epic rarely announces the closing date in advance." If you have a phone that runs Fortnite, do it this week instead of the week you remember.

6. The gift card trick (free, with an asterisk the size of a monkey)

Strictly speaking, this one costs money. But if you were going to buy V-Bucks anyway, redeem a new Fortnite gift card and you get the GHOST Monks outfit on top.

Epic's wording, as reposted by Fort Byte News on X, covers the fine print: you'll get the outfit "if you redeem a new Fortnite gift card," and "you will not receive the Outfit by using the retired V-Bucks card." The offer runs until December 31, 2026. If you're picking up a card at Walmart or Target for a birthday, this is the one to grab.

7. Epic Games Store and PlayStation Plus extras

The last route is the "free if you were already paying" category. Epic regularly attaches Fortnite outfits to game purchases on the Epic Games Store. Beebom's September 2026 list includes Doctor Eggman with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Adam Smasher with Cyberpunk 2077 and Dave the Diver with, well, Dave the Diver. The skin is basically a toy in the cereal box.

These deals move fast. The Perlica skin for Arknights: Endfield buyers was delivered on August 14, and Mad Moxxi for Borderlands 4 buyers ended on September 12, according to Skycoach. So check the Store's "Gift with Purchase" page before you buy a game for the skin alone. On PlayStation, Beebom lists the Shinji outfit through a PlayStation Plus subscription. Nobody should subscribe just for one outfit, but if you already pay for PS Plus to play online, claim it from the PlayStation Store and move on.

About those “free skin generators”

Search "free Fortnite skins" and among the guides you'll find something strange: PDFs hosted on real university websites, with titles like "free fort nite skins v4." Nobody at those universities is handing out Fortnite outfits. Spammers upload these files to forms and folders anywhere they can, and the file names are the whole trick.

Malwarebytes wrote about the newer version of the scam on July 31, 2026. Fake sites that look like Epic promise free V-Bucks, "locker value" calculators or even payouts from the FTC's $520 million Epic settlement, then ask you to log in. That login goes straight to the scammer. As Malwarebytes put it, "a stolen Fortnite account can be worth real money," especially one with rare skins or a saved card.

The rule is boring and it works. Log in only at epicgames.com, turn on two-factor authentication (you need it for Ranked Cups anyway), and treat any site that asks for your Epic password in exchange for V-Bucks the way you'd treat a stranger on Discord offering you a free PS5.

So which free skin should you grab first?

For most players, start with the LEGO link. It takes two minutes and gives you two outfits in two styles each. Mobile players should do the Yeddy quests next, before the campaign disappears. Then decide how much patience you have: Pixel Polli needs steady play until about November 1, and Null needs you to survive a Ranked lobby.
Epic has made a habit of this: giving away a handful of skins so the Item Shop feels a little less like a pizza menu. It still is one. But at least this month you can walk out with a few slices without paying.
